This morning, Peter and I slept in. Peter has had a difficult time getting adjusted to the firmer mattress and the extra hours of sunlight.
I went down to the church and conducted Rhona and Stewart's wedding. Then, my presence was required at the dinner, so I attended that part. LOTS of men in kilts, but no real prospects for any of the girls back home.
At weddings in Scotland, the bride is given a horseshoe and a wooden spoon - both given for luck. I don't know if it is good luck for the bride to put up with the husband, good luck for the two of them, or what. But, it was interesting. The speeches following dinner were quite similar to the speeches back home. Except, that the best man read some of the wishes expressed in the cards that arrived from folks who could not make the wedding. I also learnt a new word, upstanding. This is not upstanding, as in an upstanding citizen. Instead it is used like this, "Now if everyone will be upstanding for a toast to the bride and groom."
After the dinner was the reception/ceilidh, but Peter was at home, and I didn't really feel like staying by myself. So, I went back to the manse to find that Peter had taken a wee fall and cut up his knee.

So Peter must have REALLY upped the pint count to cause a wee fall and cut his knee. Way to go, Peter! :-)
Did you enjoy doing a wedding for a different culture?
Thanks for the update on lack of cute men at the wedding. Hope Peter is okay from this fall. Some whiskey should patch him up right quick. ;-) I think the wooden spoon is for good luck in child rearing AKA spanking. My mama used it on my bottom and it hurt!
Ok, how did I know the fall and the scraped up knee would make it in the blog? One would think the editor of "On the Road with Pink Jesus" would stick to more interesting stories.
Yes, I fell - right in front of the Royal George restaurant (where the wedding reception was). Sad to report it was slick stone from a bit of rain and not several pints that caused this.
Anyway, Saturday for me was spent studying maps, getting to the visitor's center and preparing for the trip ahead, although I regret not seeing parts of this wedding. Even though I hate weddings and dancing, I love everything Scottish, so it would be interesting to find out which wins. I think, since Janelle pointed out to me later they had a bagpiper, I think I missed out.
Ahh well, no time to start a tally on regrets. The knee is healing up nicely, and hasn't affected walking around at all.
